Remounting and Restorations
Remounting and Restorations including the re-polishing of damaged diamonds and worn gemstones.
If jewellery is worn regularly it will inevitably experience wear to the settings, ring shanks (bands) and the facets of gemstones causing them to look dull and lifeless. It is therefore important to have your jewellery cleaned and examined carefully on a regular basis (every 1-2 years) to ensure gems are secure and that there are no other issues needing attention in order to save unnecessary expense further down the road.
Some insurers insist on a yearly inspection and in general, insurance companies will not pay out if gems have fallen out due to excessive wear/a lack of maintenance which is obvious to the trained eye.
At Edward James we offer a free examination service and will advise on the most economic method to maintain your jewellery. Often just one, a few claws, or the most worn section of a band is all that may need attention but sometimes on balance if the wear is too excessive it is more economical to remount all the original stones in a new replacement ring of the same style or another suitable preferred design.
If stones are going to be re-mounted, this is also the ideal time to re-polish any badly worn/dulled gemstones in order to restore them to their original sparkle and appearance.
